Taking Stock of Shock

Book Presentation and Conversation with Kristen GHODSEE (Philadelphia/USA) and Mitchell A. ORENSTEIN (Philadelphia/USA).

In their recent book "Taking Stock of Shock" Kristen Ghodsee and Mitchell A. Orenstein look at the social consequences of the 1989 revolutions. Drawing from political science and ethnography, they examine 27 countries over the 30 years of transition in the post-socialist world and analyze the competing narratives about that transition. Their interdisciplinary approach enables them to closely investigate who won and who lost in it and to ultimately develop a new narrative about transition from an inequalities perspective.

The presentation of the book will be followed by a discussion with questions from the audience.
