Reporting from war zones
Experts on Eastern Europe deal with an area that is rich of innerstate andinterstate conflicts. Some of these conflicts reach the level of a large-scalewar as we witness, e.g., in the Donbas and only recently in NagornoKarabakh. Experts on Eastern Europe and journalists are much-needed for analyzingthese conflicts and keeping society as well as decision makers informedabout the reality on the ground.
While reporting from and about war zones journalists are faced withvarious questions:
How to gain safe access to war scenes?
How to stay impartial?
How to report about victims of war in a dignified way?
How to mentally cope with witnessing war and crime scenes?
How to find and preserve the border between reporting and activism?
